Acne Treatment

Advancements in Dermatology and Skin Speaks Spa M.D. treats acne in many different ways, depending on the needs and severity of the condition.

Teen acne is very different from adult acne and may require more aggressive treatment to avoid scarring that can last a lifetime.

The cause of adult acne is largely unknown, but thought to be hormonal. Statistics reveal that 50% of adult women and 25% of adult men suffer from some form of acne at some point in their lives.

For information regarding dermatologic appointments for active acne treatments, please refer to Advancements in Dermatology or call 763.231.8700 to schedule an appt. in any location.

Treatment options:

Medications may involve retinoids, antibiotics, azelaic acid and birth control pills, and all options available for acne treatment. Some of these treatments are covered by insurance.

High intensity blue-light devices are available with or without the combination of ALA (aminolevulanic acid) to kill bacteria responsible for acne. This treatment is referred to as photodynamic therapy.

The most severe cases are resolved with Accutane, commonly a 5-month course that is considered the most effective treatment available.
