Eyelid surgery restores the natural, and energetic appearance of your eyes. This is a procedure that Dr. Patrick S. Carney has mastered with his artful eye and skilled hand. It is a simple procedure with amazing and dramatic results.
Dr. Carney performs eyelid surgery in his office under local anesthesia.
Eyelid Surgery or blepharoplasty will correct sagging eyelids, remove fatty pouches beneath the eyes, and remove excess skin. Eyelid surgery may be done on the upper lids, lower lids, in combination, and in conjunction with a facelift or laser resurfacing.
Under local anesthesia, it is common to have a procedure on a Thursday or Friday, and return to work on Monday.
What is Lower Blepharoplasty?
Dr. Carney’s approach to lower eyelid surgery is referred to as transconjunctival: making a slight incision in the lower lid and removing the three fat pads; medial, middle and lateral. This surgery is quick because there is no suturing. It offers fewer risks, less bruising and swelling, encouraging a more rapid recovery.
Dr. Carney encourages lower blepharoplasty followed by a skin tightening procedure or a chemical peel, when excess skin may be involved. In these cases, his standard approach is to remove the fat pads, and follow with a TCA, 88% phenol, or Baker-Gordon peel depending on the laxity of the tissue. In most cases it is better to combine these procedures, offering the patient a single postoperative healing period and exceptional results.
What is Upper Blepharoplasty?
Dr. Carney selects this procedure after a patient evaluation. It is important to determine if it is ptosis (drooping) of the eyebrow or eyelid.
To correct eyelid drooping, a very standard elliptical shaped excision is made in the lid and both skin and the orbicularis oculi muscle are removed. The nasal and medial fat pads are then removed. The incision is closed and repaired using Prolene sutures that are removed five days after the procedure.
Under local anesthesia, it is common to have a procedure on a Thursday or Friday, and return to work on Monday.
