Earlobe repair

Earlobe tears are most common in people who wear pierced earrings, as they can easily be caught and pulled through. With today’s trends in using tapers to stretch the earlobe, this procedure’s popularity will soon be on the rise.

Using a local anesthetic, Dr. Carney will remove any skin surrounding the split to create a clean edge, and then stitch the ear back together.

The procedure is quick and painless and the result in most cases is an aesthetically pleasing earlobe. Sutures will be put into the lobe and removed within a week. You can expect some discomfort and swelling and may need to wear a dressing on the ear for a few days. Any scarring will generally fade over time.

If the ear-piercing hole is closed up during repair, it can usually be re-pierced after a few months.
