May is National Skin Cancer Awareness Month, which we consider to be a good thing, particularly for Minnesotans!

Summer is short and sweet, and nobody wants to be indoors.  We all want to look good, be healthy, and enjoy the outdoors. Playing it safe doesn’t have to infringe on your lifestyle or your appearance.

1 in 5 people are diagnosed with some form of skin cancer, 1 in 58 with Melanoma, the most dangerous and fatal form.  And all forms of skin cancer know sun exposure is their most common culprit.

Most people think they know what skin cancer looks like; a darker mole that changes in size and shape.  Melanoma does look like this, but the most common types of skin cancer do not.

Basal and Squamous cell (non-melanoma skin cancer) may appear like a “pimple” or “pearly patch” that never seems to go away, and if it does, reappears in the same place.  These cancers are very treatable if detected, but if not, can lead to serious consequences and disfigurement, particularly on facial features like your nose and ears.

Prevention is key. And simple. Please follow these very simple instructions and have an amazing summer!
